Very well done to Whitchurch club member, Marc Walford, who took first place in Sunday’s `Clash in the Castle` open-air epee match, in Coity Castle, Bridgend, organised by Celtic Sword Fencing Club.
This was a very closely fought event, with experienced epeeists Max Rowe-Haynes, Andrea Bertelli, and Rupert Nute in hot pursuit. Marc however had a clean sweep, undefeated in any of his matches in the event, which was run as a Poule Unique.
An accomplished fencer in his own right from his time at Aberystwyth University Fencing Club, Marc’s day job is as an Anglican Vicar in the Merthyr Tydfil area, and so he is seldom free on Sundays…. “I think this must be the first external competition I’ve entered in 10 years”, said Marc excitedly, on receiving the medal for first place.
